HATZALAHCleveland

About us

A community organization, built on Rabbinic and medical leadership

Hatzalah Cleveland is a volunteer emergency medical response service for the Cleveland Jewish community, and for anyone in need in our neighborhoods.

Who we are

Hatzalah Cleveland began serving Beachwood, Cleveland Heights and University Heights in year. Our members are certified Emergency Medical Technicians who live and work in these neighborhoods, in our schools, shuls and businesses, so the nearest responder is often only minutes away.

We are not a substitute for 911. Our purpose is to offer a lifesaving bridge during the critical moments before fire/rescue arrives, and then hand over care and help however we can.

Hatzalah began in Williamsburg, New York in 1965 and now operates in cities of every size around the world. Hatzalah Cleveland is the only Hatzalah organization in northeast Ohio authorized by Chevra Hatzalah of New York to use the Hatzalah name.

Working alongside Fire and EMS

Partners, not replacements

We collaborate with local fire, rescue and police departments, municipalities and healthcare organizations in how we train and respond.

Call both

Our responders make sure 911 has been called, and stay with the patient until fire/rescue takes over and transports.

Best practices

We built our model on the experience of other Hatzalahs and EMS systems, adapted for our community.

Leadership

Our work is guided by a Rabbinical Board and a Medical Director.
